Jupiter Encounter
The larger image shows New Horizons' path through the Jupiter system; the inset shows the location of Jupiter's four largest moons, Io, Ganymede, Europa and Callisto. New Horizons will turn its science instruments toward the moons as well as the giant planet.

Jupiter from New Horizons
The following figures depict the approach to Jupiter through the "eyes" of New Horizons. The top image shows the scene at one-half the field of view (FOV) of the Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) telescope. The image only conveys the apparent size of Jupiter and is not a simulation of what LORRI will actually see.
As New Horizons approaches Jupiter, the size of the planet will appear to grow in the LORRI images, becoming more and more magnified. To provide a broader perspective, the second figure depicts the scene when the FOV is 2 times larger than the LORRI FOV, and the final figure is for a FOV that is 8 times larger than the LORRI FOV.
